No Raj leader in BJP's star campaigners' list
Jaipur, Oct. 18 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) list of 40-star campaigners for the Bihar assembly elections has triggered a political buzz in Rajasthan - not for the names it includes, but for those it leaves out.
The complete absence of any Rajasthan leader from the high-profile list has set off intense speculation about shifting equations within the party.
The list features top national leaders including PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda, and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. It also includes the chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Assam, and Delhi.
However, not a single leader from Rajasthan - neither Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, former CM Vasundhara Raje, nor any Union minister or senior BJP leader from the state - has been named in the star campaigner list. The exclusion has surprised many within the party, as Rajasthan leaders have traditionally played a role in election campaigns outside the state.
Interestingly, even though he was not included in the official list, chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma was on a day visit to Bihar on Friday, where he addressed a rally in Sitamarhi along with Rajasthan minister Avinash Gehlot - indicating that Rajasthan's political presence in Bihar may not be entirely absent from the ground.
Rajasthan's presence has always been considered significant in Bihar elections due to the influence of the Marwari business community and Rajasthani-origin voters in several urban areas of Bihar. In past elections, leaders like former Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore and other Rajasthan BJP figures have actively participated in campaigning in Bihar.
This time, the omission of Vasundhara Raje - a former chief minister and a prominent national face - has drawn particular attention.
Raje, who has recently become more active in Rajasthan politics through public tours and social media outreach highlighting her past initiatives, was expected to feature on the list.
Although no one from the state has been named as a star campaigner, people in the know say several Rajasthan BJP leaders and workers are already in Bihar. Senior leader Rajendra Rathore and others have reportedly been involved in campaign coordination, public outreach, and organizational work over the past two weeks.
A senior BJP leader from Rajasthan, reacting to the development, said, "It's a big question - what is the central leadership thinking about Rajasthan? Such exclusion has never happened before."
Political analyst Manish Godha described the move as "unusual and surprising." He said, "It's strange that no Rajasthan BJP leader, including chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma, has been included in the list. One possible reason could be that the CM is not yet a familiar face in national or Bihar politics. However, this has never been the case before - even Vasundhara Raje and Union ministers from the state used to get representation. The BJP is an unpredictable party - it can change faces and strategies overnight, as we saw in Gujarat."...
