No more jail terms for 11 minor offences: Govt
Jaipur, Dec. 5 -- The Rajasthan government has decided to remove jail terms for minor offences from 11 laws, including the Forest Act, by bringing in the Jan Vishwas (Amendment and Provisions) Bill, 2025.
An official familiar with the matter said, these 11 acts include Rajasthan Forest Act 1953, Rajasthan Tenancy Act 1955, Rajasthan Shipping Regulation Act 1956, Rajasthan Warehousing Act 1956, Rajasthan State Aide (Industry) Act 1961, Rajasthan Electricity (Duty) Act 1962, Rajasthan Money Lenders Act 1963, Rajasthan Non-Government Educational Institutions Act 1989, Rajasthan Stamp Act 1998, Rajasthan Municipalities Act 2009, and Jaipur Water Supply and Sewerage Board Act-2018. "A draft copy of the act has already been approved by the cabinet on Wednesday and therefore will be implemented soon. This was laid out in line with a similar one tabled by the centre," said an officer.
State law minister Jogaram Patel said, "Earlier, six-month imprisonment was a must under section 26 (1) of the Forest Act for grazing cattle at the core areas of the forest and causing damage to the forest lands. Now it will result in a fine of Rs.500... The amended act will have several provisions that will ease the lives of people by reducing punishments for minor offences or technical mistakes."...
