Jaipur, April 30 -- Several districts across northern and western Rajasthan on Wednesday received light to moderate rainfall, along with isolated hailstorms reported at certain spots, bringing a temporary breath of relief from the relentless week-long heatwave.
As per data shared by India Meteorological Department, Tibbi in Hanumangarh received 13 millimetres of rainfall, which was the maximum in the state, followed by 11 millimetres in Srikaranpur in Sriganganagar and 8 millimetres in Churu's Sadulpur.
Bikaner, Anupgarh, Sangria, Jaipur, Kotputli, Karauli and Bharatpur also received very light rain.
Jaipur witnessed cloudy skies in the morning, before temperatures rose after 1pm, said officials.
The rainfall led to temperatures dropping across districts, although they remained above 40degC in most places.
Phalodi recorded the day's maximum temperature at 44.2degC, followed by 43.5degC in Kota, and 43degC in Chittorgarh and Barmer.
Jaipur recorded 40.2degC as daytime temperature.
"In many places, light to moderate rains with hailstorm was reported on Wednesday morning that also dropped the temperature 2 to 3 degrees in average. Due to activation of a western disturbance and easterly winds coming from the Bay of Bengal, thunderstorms accompanied by squalls (40-50 Kmph) and light rain at isolated places are likely to occur in the next 3-4 days in the afternoon. In the first week of May also, heat wave conditions are likely to be recorded at some places in the state and thunderstorm and storm activities are likely to be recorded in the afternoon,"said an IMD bulletin....
