ngt dismisses plea flagging sewage inflow in bhilwara lake
Jaipur, Dec. 13 -- The National Green Tribunal (NGT), Central Zone Bench, Bhopal, has disposed of an application filed by Babulal Jajoo concerning the inflow of untreated sewage into Gandhi Sagar Talab in Bhilwara.
The applicant alleged that untreated domestic sewage was freely entering the lake, causing environmental degradation. NGT had on October 27 directed the Municipal Corporation, Bhilwara to file a detailed response.
In its reply, the Corporation submitted that a comprehensive assessment of the sewage discharge system was completed.
"A full-fledged wastewater nalla construction project has been initiated to intercept, divert, and channel untreated sewage entering the lake. A work order has been issued to Shri Mohammad Arif (Udaipur). The project was started May 23 and which is scheduled to be over by May 20, 2026," read the order copy.
The Applicant's counsel submitted that although he has no objection to the project, some arrangements should be made to divert untreated sewage during the interim period.
The court, on Friday, observed, "We are not in agreement by the argument made by the learned Counsel for the Applicant because the procedure for stopping the untreated water going into the Gandhi Sagar Lake is already underway and that the project which has been started for this is also going to be completed by 31.03.2026, that seems to be a reasonable time...The Respondents shall complete the project on time and shall take care of the untreated sewage....
