ncw chief: rise in crime reporting healthy change
Jaipur, March 10 -- National Commission for Women chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar on Monday hailed a decline in overall crimes against women in Rajasthan, even as molestation case reports surged-a trend she attributed to rising legal awareness and women's growing confidence to come forward.
"If reporting is increasing, it should not be seen negatively but as a healthy social change. Women are now coming forward openly to assert their rights," she said.
Reviewing crime data at the Rajasthan Police Headquarters, Rahatkar noted that many cases involve acquaintances such as friends, live-in partners or estranged husbands, describing it as a serious social concern. She added that figures for 2024, 2025 and early 2026 reflect improvement due to sustained administrative efforts.
Rahatkar and her team examined women's safety and crime trends during the high-level review meeting. She said increased molestation reports signal "rising legal awareness and growing confidence among women"....
