Monsoon to pick up pace from July 2: Met dept
Jaipur, July 1 -- The monsoon is set to pick up pace in western Rajasthan starting July 2, with several districts likely to witness increased rainfall activity.
According to the meteorological department, a low-pressure area has formed over the northern Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal region, which is expected to move gradually towards Jharkhand in the next two days.
"Due to the influence of this system, rainfall activity is expected to increase over most parts of eastern Rajasthan from July 1, indicating that the monsoon is likely to remain active in the region for the coming week."
"There is also a strong possibility of increased rainfall activity in some parts of western Rajasthan starting from July 2."
Meanwhile, Churu recorded 85.1 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours, the highest single-day rainfall in June since 1956. The previous record was 81.9 mm on June 24, 1988, says the Met department.
The monsoon has now completely covered Rajasthan, even reaching Pakistan, well ahead of the usual date of July 8. This year, it covered the entire state by June 29....
