Monsoon continues to wreak havoc; one dead
Jaipur/Bharatpur, Sept. 1 -- The continuous rainfall in the state has led to rivers and streams swelling dangerously. In Sawai Madhopur district a 14-year-old girl died and several of her family members were severely injured in a rain-related incident.
According to officials, lightning hit a house in Ladpura village under Bamanwas subdivision on Sunday evening which caused an explosion in the television set. Nine people were in the house when the blast happened. In the incident, a 14-year-old girl, Kranti Kharwal, died during treatment, while eight others - including five children - sustained burn injuries. Three critically injured victims were referred to Gangapur City hospital. Officials, including the Additional District Collector and Sub-Divisional Magistrates, visited the hospital and assured proper treatment. Villagers have demanded compensation for the bereaved family.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that a circulation system is currently positioned over north-west Rajasthan, while an upper-air western disturbance is active over Punjab and adjoining Pakistan. The monsoon trough line is also passing through its normal position, keeping conditions favourable for rains.
The forecast predicts that "monsoon activity will remain active in eastern Rajasthan for the next five to six days, bringing moderate to heavy rains at several places. In western Rajasthan too, particularly parts of Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions, moderate to heavy showers are likely over the next two to three days, according to the department."

In Hanumangarh, with the Ghaggar river flowing in spate and continuous rains raising fears of flooding, the district administration cancelled staff leaves and put disaster response teams on alert. Collector Khushal Yadav and senior officials inspected low-lying areas, assuring residents that the situation is under constant watch.
In Jalore district, an average of 27 mm rainfall was recorded in the last 24 hours, with Bhinmal receiving 59 mm and Sanchore 81 mm. In Bagoda village, a lightning strike killed 16 goats, adding to the woes of villagers.
