Ministers highlight development works
Jaipur, Dec. 18 -- The state government on Wednesday said it has fast-tracked drinking water and irrigation projects over the past two years, significantly expanding tap water connections, reviving stalled schemes and stepping up action against corruption, as public health engineering minister Kanhaiya Lal Choudhary and water resources minister Suresh Singh Rawat outlined key achievements in the water sector at a joint press conference in Jaipur's Jal Bhawan.
Choudhary said key decisions were taken to fasttrack water supply projects. "The government has moved decisively towards the goal of providing tap water to every household," he said.
The minister said the current government has delivered 1.37 million connections in just two years across more than 7,900 villages, with annual expenditure of around Rs.5,300 crore, amounting to Rs.10,612 crore so far, which was 3.92 million connections in 5,027 villages over five years, spending around Rs.19,500 crore, or an average of Rs.3,900 crore annually in last regime.
Minister Rawat said water projects that were stalled for years under previous governments had gained momentum in the past two years.
Work orders worth Rs.9,600 crore have been issued under the first phase, while approvals have been granted for additional works worth Rs.14,676 crore....
