Man kidnaps 24-yr-old for Rs.20L ransom, held
Barmer, June 29 -- Two men were arrested on charges of kidnapping and extorting a 24-year-old man in Barmer district, police officers aware of the matter said on Saturday, adding that a third accused is absconding.
Police said the accused - Hukma Ram Jat (54), the father of a friend of the victim, and Devendra Chaudhary (22) - were arrested on Friday night.
According to police, victim Sataram Jat received a WhatsApp message on the night of June 21 from an acquaintance, a woman, who invited him to Shivnagar to meet her.
When he reached where they decided to meet, he found the girl's father, her cousin and another accomplice, police said, adding that the victim was allegedly held captive for three days, subjected to assault, and threatened with the release of nude photos and videos unless Rs.20 lakh ransom was paid.
The accused reduced their demand to Rs.5 lakh when the victim said he did not have enough money.
The victim called his relatives who agreed to pay Rs.50,000 but reached out to police when the accused insisted on Rs.5 lakh, police said.
A case has been registered against the three accused under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 127 (3) (wrongful confinement), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 308 (extortion), 119 (1) (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), and 3 (5) (common intention).
According to CI Sumer Singh, on June 24, police successfully traced the location to Shivnagar and rescued the victim from the room. A search for the third accomplice is underway....
