Man held for killing pregnant woman, her two-year-old son
Udaipur, Feb. 20 -- A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering a nine-month pregnant woman and her two-year-old son in Rajsamand district, police said on Thursday.
According to police, the accused has been identified as Govind Singh Rawat.
Following the disclosure made by the accused during interrogation, the body of the deceased woman, Priyanka Rawat, 22, was recovered from Bhim Talab and the body of her son, Aryan, was recovered from a forest area on Thursday, police said.
The forest area where the boy's body was found is about 20 km away from the pond.
Priyanka had left her home on the night of February 11 with jewellery and her child and had been missing since then.
On February 12, her husband, Hari Singh, lodged a missing person report at Bhim police station.
Priyanka Rawat was a resident of Chak Hirat village under Kushalpura panchayat. During preliminary investigation, it emerged that the woman was in contact with the accused, and the crime appears to be linked to that association. However, police said a detailed investigation is still underway.
Acting on the contact information, police detained Govind on Wednesday, and during questioning, he confessed to having killed both Priyanka and her son and dumping their bodies.
Rajsamand superintendent of police Mamta Gupta personally visited the spot and monitored the investigation.
The accused has been taken into custody and is being interrogated, police said.
SP Mamta Gupta said, "The accused was arrested based on technical and circumstantial evidence. During questioning, he led us to Bhim Talab, from where the body of the deceased was recovered. We are examining all angles, and further details will be revealed soon."
Police have registered a murder case and sent the bodies for postmortem. The accused is being questioned to determine the motive, police said....
