man dies after fan falls on him, say Kin; hospital denies charge
Udaipur, April 29 -- A controversy erupted at Maharana Bhupal (MB) Hospital in Udaipur where a ceiling fan fell down on Sunday, injuring a 51-year-old man who later died. While the family of the deceased man, Omprakash, alleged that his death was caused by injuries during the fan accident, the hospital authorities said that the fatality was a result of his critical, pre-existing illness, officials aware of the matter said.
Omprakash (identified by single name), a resident of Piplia Kala village at Nimbahera in Chittorgarh district was admitted to ward No. 104 of the medicine department. His treatment was started immediately, but he succumbed to his injuries later in the day, they added.
Superintendent of MB hospital Dr RL Suman said Omprakash was suffering from tuberculosis, respiratory disease and pneumonia. "He was admitted to the hospital on April 22 and was on oxygen support. After the accident, he suffered nose injury and received stitches. Suddenly his health deteriorated and he died. However, his death was not due to the injuries suffered during the fan accident. We have asked the staff to conduct an internal probe and submit a factual report of the incident."
Police said that Omprakash's wife, Munnibai, lodged a complaint against the hospital at Hathipol police station.
"Munnibai said that her husband's condition was improving before the accident. After he sustained injuries due to the fan accident, he was admitted to ICU, where he later died," said ASI Dalpat Singh. htc...
