Man cheats woman of jewellery by posing as minister's OSD, held
Jaipur, July 15 -- A 26-year-old man in Jaipur was arrested on Monday for allegedly cheating an Ahmedabad-based woman of diamond jewellery worth Rs.15 lakh by impersonating an officer on special duty (OSD) to the Union home minister Amit Shah, said officials.
The DCP Jaipur (East) Tejaswini Gautam said, "The incident happened on Saturday when the woman visited Jaipur for a function. The two met on social media. We have arrested the man on Monday based on the woman's complaint. It was also found that four more cases are already lodged against the man in Jaipur and Sikar for committing similar fraud."
According to officials, the victim identified as Rajni Meena (30) has a jewellery business in Ahmedabad. "She met the accused, Neeraj Vaishnav Sharma (26), a few months agp on social media. On Saturday, Meena went to meet Sharma after her scheduled function where he asked for some jewelry for a photoshoot on the pretext of getting married to her soon," said the station house officer of the airport police station, Sandeep Basera.
On Sharma's request, Meena gave him a diamond necklace and a bracelet. "But when she asked him to return it while returning to Ahmedabad, he denied. He also blackmailed her that he will send some man to kidnap her if she tells anybody about it. Following the matter, she came to the police station on Sunday and filed an FIR against Sharma," said Basera.
An FIR of extortion and fraud has been lodged against him under relevant BNS sections at the airport police station.
"After the FIR, we started tracing his GPS location and arrested him from his native place in Karauli's Hindaun City. The jewellery along with an SUV have been seized from him. He had also impersonated some IPS and RAS officers earlier to dupe people in Jaipur and Sikar and had been on the run for a long time. We are questioning him. Further probe is underway," said SHO....
