Bharatpur, Oct. 9 -- Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly, Tikaram Jully, on Wednesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of following a "divide and rule" policy to stay in power and alleged that the state government had failed to control rising crime. Referring to the recent fire tragedy at Jaipur's SMS Hospital, where eight patients were killed, Jully alleged that evidence was destroyed before chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma reached the spot. "The actual death toll is higher than what has been declared. Several ICU patients are in critical condition," he said. He also said cases of atrocities against Dalits were increasing in BJP-ruled states. "The BJP doesn't believe in the Constitution. India's diversity is its strength, but the ruling party is destroying the soul of the country," he alleged. Commenting on recent child deaths linked to contaminated cough syrup, Jully demanded a probe. "More than 20 children have died in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The Tamil Nadu and Punjab governments have banned the syrup, which contains DEG, a harmful chemical. Why is a blacklisted company still supplying it? Those responsible must face murder charges," he said.
