LoP Julie attacks govt, terms two-year tenure 'total failure'
Jaipur, Dec. 17 -- Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Tikaram Julie on Tuesday launched an attack on the Bhajanlal Sharma-led government, declaring its two-year tenure a "complete failure" and challenging the chief minister to a public debate.
Addressing media persons in Jaipur, Julie said the government's claim of fulfilling 72% of its poll promises was not an achievement but a "72% betrayal" of the people of the state.
Reacting to the chief minister's recent statements, Julie said, "Chief Minister ji, tell me the place, time and day - I am ready to come for a debate wherever you call me." He also pointed out that the CM was holding his first press conference after two years, which, according to him, reflected the government's lack of seriousness towards the media and the public.
The LoP accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of failing to deliver on 10 key manifesto promises, including higher Kisan Samman Nidhi payments, tap water for all homes by 2025, MSP procurement for major crops, transparent transfers, full school uniform assistance and effective livestock insurance. He also flagged large vacancies in government jobs, lack of new educational institutions, continued land auctions, and failure to cut petrol-diesel VAT, calling the government's performance a clear breach of its commitments.
Julie alleged that Rajasthan is being pushed towards economic ruin. He said the state's debt has risen by Rs.1.55 lakh crore in two years, pushing per capita debt to nearly Rs.1 lakh. Calling it a "borrow-and-spend" policy, he highlighted that while only Rs.15,397 crore was spent on capital expenditure, a higher amount - Rs.19,676 crore - went into paying interest, stalling development.
He further claimed that under the much-touted "double-engine government," Rajasthan was supposed to receive Rs.39,193 crore from the Centre but got only Rs.7,171 crore, just 18% of the expectation. Of 2,717 budget announcements, only 754 (27%) have been completed so far.
Raising concerns over law and order, the LoP cited 39,974 serious crime cases registered between August 2023 and July 2025, with a conviction rate of just 0.4%. He also accused the government of shielding the corrupt by denying prosecution sanctions, contrasting it with over 1,800 approvals granted during the Congress regime.
Reacting to the allegations, BJP spokesperson Ram Lal Sharma termed the Opposition's statements as "mere political rhetoric," asserting that they lack factual basis. He claimed that incidents such as paper leaks and gang wars were rampant during the Congress regime....
