Locals attack man accusing him of eloping with woman, cut off nose
Jodhpur, Jan. 4 -- A 25-year-old man accused of eloping with a woman was attacked allegedly by villagers in Jodhpur's Luni police station limits, police said on Saturday.
According to police, during the assault on Friday, the attackers cut off his nose with a sharp weapon, beat him and vandalised his vehicle before fleeing the spot.
The injured man, identified as Dinesh Bishnoi, was taken to Mathuradas Mathur Hospital in a critical condition. Doctors said his condition is currently stable. Police said three people have been detained in connection with the incident till Saturday evening.
Assistant commissioner of police (Boranada) Anand Singh Rajpurohit said Dinesh had eloped with a woman from a neighbouring village some days ago. Under pressure from the police and villagers, he released the woman on Thursday.
On Friday afternoon, Dinesh returned to the village in an SUV, where a group of people attacked him, police said. He suffered fractures in his hands and legs, and his nose was severed with a sharp-edged weapon, causing heavy bleeding.
Luni SHO Suresh Chaudhary said a case had been registered against Dinesh on December 26 for allegedly luring and taking away the woman. Following police pressure, the woman reached the police station on Thursday evening.
The SHO also said Dinesh had earlier been arrested under the NDPS Act.
Police have seized the damaged SUV used by the victim. The family of the injured man has filed an FIR against 24 people. Efforts are on to trace the named and suspected accused....
