Kota, Sept. 24 -- The Ministry of Civil Aviation has given its in-principle approval to setting up a Greenfield airport in the Shambhupura area of Kota.

The project, once implemented, will fulfill a long-held wish for locals for an airstrip in the city.

The in-principle nod came during a meeting between Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Airports Authority of India chairman Arvind Singh and Aviation secretary Kuldeep Kharola on Tuesday evening.

A statement issued by the Lok Sabha Speaker's office quoted Birla as telling the minister and top aviation officials that the project is a sensitive one as a lot of public sentiment is attached to it.
