Barmer, July 22 -- A 30-year-old man drowned in a pond in Barmer while on a picnic with friends, police said on Monday. The station house officer (SHO) of Chohtan police station, Raju Ram said the victim, Mangilal, slipped while bathing and was swept into deep water. He had recently come to his village from Kerala where he owns a cloth shop. The SHO said the incident took place on Sunday late evening at Gomarkhdham near Taratara Math. "Upon receiving the information, police reached the spot along with divers, and a rescue operation was launched, but he could not be saved. After two hours of search operations, Mangilal's body was recovered," he said. "A complaint has been filed by the victim's brother, Dewaram. In the complaint, Dewaram mentioned that Mangilal had gone for a picnic with four friends. All of them entered the pond to bathe, but Mangilal lost his balance and slipped into deeper water. His friends, unable to rescue him, informed nearby villagers, who then alerted the police," he said....
