Jaipur, Oct. 30 -- In a key political twist ahead of the Anta assembly by-election, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has announced his support for independent candidate Naresh Meena, transforming what has traditionally been a BJP-Congress battle into a triangular contest. Meena had earlier taken to X, appealing to Kejriwal and the AAP for support. In his post, Meena wrote, "For a new and fair political system and change, I am contesting the Anta by-election as an independent candidate. As a new alternative to the Congress and BJP, I urge the Aam Aadmi Party's national convener Arvind Kejriwal and the entire party to support me." Responding to this appeal, Kejriwal replied on X, writing, "Naresh ji, the Aam Aadmi Party fully stands with you." Following Kejriwal's endorsement, the AAP has officially extended support to Meena, signaling its indirect entry into the Anta bypoll battleground. AAP's Rajasthan co-incharge Ghanendra Bhardwaj also issued a strong political statement, attacking both the BJP and Congress. He accused the two national parties of "looting Rajasthan for decades" and called on AAP workers across the state to rally behind Naresh Meena in Anta. "AAP is a national party and our workers are there from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. We will be announcing a 31-member election coordination committee for Anta bypoll, and are mobilising workers," he said. He added that Kejriwal may visit the state for a rally. Political observers view Kejriwal's support as a strategic move aimed at expanding AAP's footprint in Rajasthan, where the party is yet to secure a single assembly seat. In the 2023 Rajasthan Assembly elections, AAP's candidate from Anta, Om Prakash Gochar, had secured just 1,334 votes, accounting for 0.76% of the total vote share. Analysts Manish Godha said while AAP's base in Anta remains limited, Kejriwal's endorsement could help Meena build a fresh anti-establishment narrative in the by-election, particularly appealing to young and dissatisfied voters seeking an alternative to the traditional BJP-Congress politics. The Anta by-election, scheduled for November 11, has attracted 15 candidates in total. The results will be declared on November 14. The main contest is now expected among Congress's Pramod Jain Bhaya, BJP's Morpal Suman, and independent candidate Naresh Meena, following the withdrawal of BJP rebel Rampal Meghwal....
