Jully slams BJP-led state govt over delayed local body polls
Ajmer, April 27 -- Rajasthan assembly Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully on Sunday accused the state government of deliberately delaying urban local body and Panchayati Raj elections.
Speaking to the media during his Ajmer visit, Jully claimed that the BJP fears defeat in the upcoming elections and is therefore intentionally postponing them. He alleged that chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has been making repeated visits to Delhi to safeguard his position.
He further alleged that the chief minister is "ignoring constitutional norms to retain power and is offering new excuses daily" despite observations and reprimands from the Rajasthan high court and the Supreme Court.
On the issue of Economically Weaker Section (EWS) reservation, Jully stated that if the Congress forms the government in 2029, the scheme will be simplified further to ensure benefits reach all eligible citizens. He credited former CM Ashok Gehlot for implementing EWS reservation with procedural simplifications and acknowledged the role of Dharmendra Rathore in the process. Jully emphasized that Congress remains committed to protecting the interests of the general category.
Commenting on the Women's Reservation Bill, Jully said women's political reservation has always been part of Congress ideology. He accused the BJP of misleading women by linking implementation of reservation with delimitation and census processes, thereby delaying its execution. According to him, Congress supports immediate implementation of women's reservation without delay.
Jully concluded by reaffirming Congress's commitment to social justice, constitutional values, and safeguarding the rights of marginalized and deprived communities

Gaina alleged that the Congress is anti-women and claimed that this was the reason BJP leaders protested in Parliament on April 17. According to her, Congress leaders fear that increased representation of women in politics will threaten their political positions.
She further said that the Congress should wait and watch as the people of Rajasthan will respond democratically. Gaina added that under the leadership of chief minister Sharma, the state government is working to ensure that welfare schemes reach every section of society....
