Jaipur, Dec. 26 -- Leader of Opposition, Tikaram Jully, on Thursday raised strong objections to alleged threats to the Aravalli hill range and announced a mass awareness campaign from December 27. Jully made it clear that the Congress would not remain silent against what it sees as systematic damage to the Aravalli range. He said a public campaign would be formally launched in Alwar to mobilise people in defence of Aravallis. Targeting local MP and Union environment minister Bhupender Yadav, Jully questioned the rationale behind decisions affecting the Aravalli range. "What was the compulsion that led to Aravalli Mata being put at stake?" he asked. Jully claimed that barely 1% of hills are above 100 metres, while nearly 90% of the hills could be opened up for mining, a situation he warned would make life increasingly difficult for people in the years to come. Targeting Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Julie reminded him of a recent assurance. "Four days ago, the Chief Minister said in a speech that nothing would be allowed to happen to the Aravalli. What action has been taken from then till today?" he asked. BJP spokesperson Ram Lal Sharma said Congress leaders were now attempting to create panic over mining in the Aravalli range.
