Jodhpur, Dec. 25 -- The Family Court No. 1 in Jodhpur has annulled the marriage of a woman who was married when she was just 34 days old, bringing to an end nearly 19 years of a forced marital bond. The order was passed by Judge Satish Chandra Godara, granting relief to Sonia with the support of Saarthi Trust. Sonia, who belongs to a rural area of Jodhpur district, was married in 2005 as an infant. After the gauna ceremony in 2022, she was sent to her in-laws' house but returned to her parental home following alleged indecent behaviour. During this period, she came in contact with Saarthi Trust and its managing trustee, Dr Kriti Bharti, and decided to seek legal remedy. With Dr Kriti's assistance, Sonia filed a petition for annulment in the Family Court. During counselling, both sides agreed to annul the marriage. After considering the material placed on record, the court declared the child marriage null and void. The judicial process concluded within five months. While delivering the verdict, the court observed that child marriage is a serious offence that deprives children of their childhood, education, and health, and called for collective efforts to eliminate the practice. Dr Kriti Bharti said on Wednesday that this was the 53rd child marriage annulled with the support of Saarthi Trust. She said the organisation would now focus on Sonia's rehabilitation so that she can continue her education and rebuild her life....
