Jeweller shot dead, valuables of Rs.60l looted
Bharatpur, March 27 -- A 47-year-old jeweller was shot dead and jewellery worth Rs.60 lakh was looted from him in Bharatpur district, police said.
According to police, the incident took place on Wednesday evening,around 7pm on Nagar road in Nadbai town when some unidentified men shot dead Yogendra Chopra when he was returning home from his shop.
Around 100 metres away from the house, the accused stopped him and started attacking him with iron rods, police said, adding that they later fired two rounds of fire at him. He had a bag of jewellery worth Rs.60 which they stole and fled, police said.
On being informed, police reached the spot and rushed him to Nadbai but the doctors declared him dead.
Angry traders of Nadbai town with family members shut the market and started protest at the police station entrance with the dead body on Thursday. They agreed to take the body for cremation after officials assured them of action, police said.
