Jalore village caste panchayat boycotts 55 families from society, probe on
Barmer, June 13 -- A caste panchayat in Jalore district has boycotted 55 families and ordered that no one in the community should maintain any contact with them, police said, adding that a case will be registered after investigating the matter.
"There are two groups in the Siyana village with a decades-old rivalry. We have received a complaint alleging that the panchayat has barred 55 families from attending weddings, religious ceremonies and other community events. Additionally, the villagers have been instructed not to speak to them, offer food or water, or extend any kind of assistance. The complainant further stated that the panchayat has warned locals that any complaint against this decision will result in expulsion from the community and monetary fines," Mohanlal Garg, station house officer (SHO) of Bagra police station.
He further stated that an investigation has been launched and a case will be registered if facts are established. According to the complaint, the root of the conflict lies in a long-standing dispute over temple land between two factions of the same family. "For some time, the caste panchayat members have been pressuring Anaram Mali, Thanaram Mali, Manchharam Mali and Shankarlal Mali - key members of one faction - to settle the dispute," SHO said....
