Jaipur hit-and-run: 2 more held, driver still absconding
Jaipur, Jan. 12 -- Two more people were arrested on Sunday in connection with the hit-and-run incident on Friday night in which a speeding luxury car rammed into a crowd of at least 50 people near Kharabas Circle in Jaipur's Patrakar Colony area, killing a 25-year-old man and injuring 15 others, said officials.
Mansarovar ACP, Aditya Kakade, said, "The two people include a police constable Mukesh Kumar Jat who was sitting in the car at the time of the accident and a doctor Dr Ashok Meena were arrested for allegedly helping the accused flee from the site soon after the accident. However, the owner of the car Dinesh Ranwa who was also driving it on Friday is still absconding."
According to police, the incident took place after the car hit a divider and went out of control, ramming into roadside stalls and the people standing near them. "The incident took place at around 10pm on Friday. The driver, Dinesh Ranwan, is a resident of Churu and an employee of a Jaipur-based solar plant. At the time of the accident, three more people including a Jaipur-based police constable Mukesh Kumar Jat, and two others, Pappu Lal Chaudhary and Mangilal Chaudhary were present in the car," Kakade said.
"He was driving at 120 kilometres per hour. Losing control, it immediately broke a divider after which he steered it into some roadside food stalls where about 50 people were present. He also sped up to flee and mowed down 16 vehicles," he added. Eight were admitted to Jaipuria Hospital, while some shifted to private hospitals or went home after getting first aid.
One of the injured, Ramesh Bairwa, later died during treatment, police said. Following the accident, three people fled while locals caught Pappu and handed him over to police while another person Chaudhary was arrested on Saturday morning....
