Jaipur airport flags off Rs.600-cr upgrade plan
Jaipur, June 5 -- Jaipur International Airport has launched a major Rs.600-crore infrastructure upgrade aimed at boosting passenger convenience and preparing for rising travel demand. Jaipur International Airport Limited (JIAL) on Wednesday inaugurated 14 key projects simultaneously, including a major expansion of Terminal 2, additional check-in and baggage drop counters, new aero bridges, and a landscaped forecourt area, marking a significant step toward transforming the airport into a world-class travel hub.
"These projects collectively aim to elevate the infrastructure of Jaipur Airport, ensuring it meets international benchmarks and provides an enhanced travel experience. The simultaneous inauguration of these projects showcases the commitment to strategic planning and rapid development," said a JIAL spokesperson.
The expansion of T2 is a crucial component of the Airport's infrastructure development plan. The 15,000 sq mts of expansion will enhance the overall capacity of the existing terminal. Currently, the terminal has 39 check-in counters, with 24 new counters planned to be added during the expansion. This will bring the total number of check-in counters to 63, significantly reducing passenger wait times.
In addition to the new check-in counters, Jaipur Airport is also introducing eight additional Self-Baggage Drop (SBD) counters. The security screening process will also be enhanced with the addition of nine new X-ray Baggage Inspection System (XBIS) machines, which will double this number to 18. Automative Tray Retrieval System will be another unique feature of this extension. This increase will enable fast and thorough screening of be another baggage. Boarding gates will increase from six to ten. Similarly, two new entry gates will be added, taking the total number to six.
The upgrades include two new aero bridges to ease boarding, a 6,000 sq mt forecourt with retail and F&B outlets for better accessibility, and a 40,000 sq mt landscaped area to enhance aesthetics. Apron expansion at T1 and a canopy extension at T2 will improve aircraft handling and passenger comfort.
