"As per the recommendation of the empanel committee of the Union Public Service Commission for this purpose and upon repatriation from central deputation, Rajeev Sharma, is hereby appointed as the new DGP (Head of Police force), Rajasthan, for a period of two years or until further order," read the order. I believe that effective policing starts at the ground level. My priority will be to improve the police stations in every area. Women safety and the safety of the children are also our priority," said the new DGP. The state government on Monday night sought an approval from the central government to relieve the Indian Police Service officer Rajeev Sharma to appoint him as the new DGP of the state. An official from the chief minister's office said, "Rajeev Sahrma was one of three officers along with IPS Rajesh Nirwan (another officer from Rajasthan who is on central deputation) and the DGP of the Rajasthan's intelligence unit Sanjay Agrawal who were finalised by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the CM's preference to pick any one of them as the DGP. Sharma's name was approved by the CM." Sharma, a 1990-batch IPS officer from Uttar Pradesh cadre, was serving as the director general of the Bureau of Police Research and Development in New Delhi.
