Jaipur, June 16 -- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a red alert in four districts, orange alert for 10 districts for moderate to heavy rainfall while also a yellow alert in nine other districts for light to moderate rains. "A red alert has been issued for heavy rainfall along with hailstorm in Nagaur, Pali, Jodhpur and Barmer. There is a possibility of moderate to heavy rains across the Udaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Bikaner, Ajmer, Jaipur, and Bharatpur divisions with a heavy wind blowing at 50 to 60 km/hr," said Radhe Shyam Sharma, director of the Jaipur IMD. He further said: "Such pre-monsoon activity will be there till June 20 following which rains will get heavier in Kota and Bharatpur divisions. There might also be a drop in the temperature at 3 to 4degC and a respite from the heatwave across the state." On Sunday, the weather department issued the orange alert for Alwar, Jaipur, Dausa, Pali, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Sikar, Churu, Jhunjhunu, and Nagaur while the yellow alert was issued for Bikaner, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Jalore, Sirohi, Udaipur, Dungarpur, Banswara, and Pratapgarh. Meanwhile, a man riding on a two wheeler was killed in Jaipur's Raisar on Saturday night when an electric pole collapsed on him due to a storm. A local police officer said, "The victim identified as Babulal Bunkar (50), was heading towards his in-laws' place in Jawaramgarh on a two-wheeler when the pole collapsed on him due to heavy wind. The local MLA Mahendra Pal Meena was passing through the same road and immediately rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead." Despite the rainfall, heatwave also continued in several districts with the Sriganganagar touching the maximum temperature of 46.5degC followed by Bikaner 46degC. Jaipur recorded 42.3degC. According to an official statement by the state health department, at least 347 heatstroke cases have been reported in Rajasthan from March 1 till Sunday with temperature soaring rapidly. "Last year, at least 6,000 cases were reported with 17 deaths. This improvement has been achieved with regular awareness and facilitating the hospitals with immediate response systems for heatstroke cases. There has been no fatality due to heatstroke so far this year," said Dr Narottam Sharma, nodal officer of climate change in the health department....
