Illicit poppy husk worth Rs.1.4 crore seized, say police
Jaipur, July 10 -- In a crackdown on illegal narcotics, Chittorgarh police have seized 693 kg of poppy husk hidden beneath onion sacks, valued at approximately Rs.1.4 crore in the international market. The consignment was being transported in a pickup vehicle, whose driver managed to flee the scene. The team set up a checkpoint in Anoppura village under Begun police station limits. A pickup driver, upon noticing the police blockade at Chaman crossing, abandoned the vehicle and fled toward Charachha, said police.
Upon inspecting the abandoned pickup, police found 24 red mesh sacks filled with onions, but hidden underneath were 30 additional bags containing poppy husk weighing a total of 693 kilograms. The police immediately seized the vehicle and the contraband. A search operation was launched in nearby areas to trace the driver, but no leads have been found so far. Police have registered a case under the NDPS Act against the absconding driver, and further investigation is underway....
