identify and demarcate hingonia dam areas: ngt to raj
Jaipur, Jan. 22 -- The National Green Tribunal (NGT), Central Zone Bench, Bhopal, on Wednesday directed Rajasthan authorities to strictly comply with its earlier orders and complete identification and demarcation of the catchment, submergence, and floodplain areas of Hingonia Dam amid allegations of unauthorised constructions in the region.
The bench comprising justice Sheo Kumar Singh, judicial member, and Sudhir Kumar Chaturvedi, expert member, expressed concern over continued construction activity in prohibited zones despite clear directions issued on September 23, 2025.
Taking note of reports submitted by the Joint Committee, the tribunal observed that large portions of the dam catchment and Bandi River areas were being converted into commercial projects, including hotels, residential societies, and townships. The reports also pointed to obstruction of natural river flow due to construction of roads, bitumen culverts, and sand walls.
The NGT further noted that several developments had allegedly been undertaken without obtaining mandatory permissions or no-objection certificates from the water resources department and the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board.
Directing accountability, the tribunal ordered the concerned district collector to file an affidavit clarifying whether any construction activity had taken place after the tribunal's September 23, 2025, order and to ensure strict compliance with all earlier directions.
The bench further directed that proper identification and demarcation of Hingonia Dam's submergence area, catchment area, and floodplain must be completed within four weeks. The matter has been listed for further hearing on March 16, 2026....
