Jaipur, Nov. 18 -- Opposition is mounting across Rajasthan's medical fraternity over the government's recent decision to ban private practice for medical college principals and hospital superintendents. The protest escalated on Monday when superintendents of all hospitals attached to Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College offered their collective resignations to Principal Dr. Deepak Maheshwari. The doctors gathered in the SMS Hospital superintendent's chamber, discussed the issue, and then proceeded together to meet Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar. By Monday afternoon, JK Lon Hospital superintendent RM Sehra, Mahila Chikitsalaya superintendent Asha Verma, and others submitted both their resignation and a formal memorandum to Dr. Maheshwari. The protesting doctors called the government's decision one-sided and argued that restricting private practice and capping clinical duties at 25% was neither practical nor fair. They also objected to the new eligibility rule that only doctors aged 57 or below can apply for the posts of principal and superintendent, despite the government's own upper age limit being 62.
