Home, food and calm: Vaani's kind of Diwali
India, Oct. 20 -- W
hile the film industry gears up for its glittering Diwali parties, Vaani Kapoor is choosing calm over chaos this festive season. "I've planned a quiet Diwali with a few close people, home-cooked food and no social calendar pressure," she says. "The best way to celebrate is to keep it warm, kind and mindful: light diyas, share sweets, and spread happiness with those who may not get to celebrate the same way," Vaani adds.
Born and raised in Delhi, Vaani recalls the Diwalis of her childhood with fond chaos: "I remember cousins everywhere, diyas half-lit, someone lighting a chakri too close to their feet. Delhi Diwalis were colourful, loud and full of love."
For the actor, festive rituals at home were always equal parts devotion and laughter. "We'd start with a pooja that turned into a mini family roast, someone forgot the matchbox, someone complained about the sweets, total chaos," she laughs.
Whenever she's home for Diwali, Vaani enjoys adding her touch to the decor. "It's diyas everywhere, fresh flowers, and good food," she says, adding, "Sometimes work keeps me away, so we video call longer when that happens, it's our way of celebrating together."
While most see Diwali as a time to buy something new, Vaani believes in simplicity: "It feels more special when it's less about new things and more about lighter, calmer energy, and being around people you love."
Food, naturally, is a big part of her celebration. "Gujiyas and motichoor ladoos are my favourites," she grins. But cooking isn't her forte: "My contribution is usually lighting diyas! I live alone, so I don't cook elaborate meals, but I like making something nostalgic, it brings a bit of home wherever I am."...
