Jaipur, Aug. 10 -- Heavy rains will resume from August 15 after a week of reduction in monsoon activity, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday. In an official statement, IMD said, "The rain activity has been reduced significantly in the last one week following which a 52% deficit has been recorded across the state compared to the normal average. However, the heavy rain activity is going to resume from August 15." "Rainfall activity is likely to decrease in some parts of eastern Rajasthan in the next one week. However, rainfall activity is likely to increase in north-eastern parts from 9th August. During 9-12 August, light to moderate rains are likely in some parts of Bharatpur, Kota, Udaipur, Ajmer and Jaipur divisions along with thunderstorm. There is little possibility of widespread heavy rainfall in most parts of the state in the next 4-5 days," it added. According to the data provided by the IMD, eastern Rajasthan recorded about 68% deficiency in rains in the last one week while a 24% deficiency was also reported in the western part compared to the normal average. Cumulative data by the IMD also showed that Rajasthan had 255.8 mm rain from August 1 to August 8 against the normal average of 433.2 mm. Eastern Rajasthan had 359.8 mm against 607.4 mm while the western part had 173 mm against 294.5 mm. On Saturday, the IMD also issued an alert for 14 districts - Alwar, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Nagaur, Tonk, Bundi, Kota, Ajmer, Sikar, Churu, Dholpur, Karauli, Dausa, and Jhunjhunu - for light to moderate rains.. The maximum rainfall was recorded in Dausa with 71 mm today, followed by Alwar with 60 mm, and Karauli with 30 mm. The data from the state water resources portal, meanwhile, also revealed that 270 of the total 693 dams in Rajasthan were completely filled up by August 8 this year, while 287 are partially filled and 136 are empty....
