Jaipur, Aug. 15 -- After a week-long lull, the monsoon has returned to Rajasthan, bringing heavy rain to several districts and causing major disruptions. Jaipur has been witnessing a steady downpour since Thursday morning, with the walled city areas submerged under severe waterlogging. Streets in Chandpole, Johari Bazaar, Sikar Road, Barkat Nagar, Tonk Fatak, Sanganer, and Mansarovar have turned into rivers, with the water flow intensifying through the day. In some parts of Jaipur and Sikar, water levels have reached up to four feet, leaving vehicles stranded - including an ambulance that had to be pushed to safety by locals. The rain extended to other districts, with Dausa receiving showers from 7 am, affecting Sikrai, Mahuwa, Bandikui, and Lalsot. Alwar and nearby areas such as Chikani, Ramgarh, and Bahadurpur saw light rain, while Bharatpur's Bayana was hit by two hours of torrential rainfall from 4 am. Dholpur has been receiving continuous showers since Wednesday night, with Sainpao recording the highest rainfall in the state at 117 mm in the past 24 hours, followed by Dholpur city (105 mm), Mania (102 mm), and Urmila Sagar (95 mm). In Bharatpur, Barhetha received 94 mm, Bayana 83 mm, and Nagar 40 mm, while lighter showers were reported from parts of Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, and Kotputli. In Dholpur's flooded lanes, residents were seen carrying an elderly woman to hospital on a cot. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the rains are expected to intensify over the Independence Day weekend. A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is forecast to move west-northwest and strengthen, bringing moderate to heavy showers to parts of southern and southeastern Rajasthan - especially Kota and Udaipur divisions - between August 15 and 18. Rain activity is also set to increase in eastern Rajasthan from August 15 and in the western parts from August 16. The IMD has advised residents to remain alert for possible flooding and travel disruptions. Meanwhile, in Tonk, water continues to be released from the Bisalpur Dam for the fourth consecutive day, with Gate No. 9 partially opened to discharge 601 cusecs per second. On Wednesday night, the dam was lit up in the colours of the national flag ahead of Independence Day. Rajasthan has so far recorded 52% more rainfall than average this monsoon season. From June 1 to August 12, the state normally receives 283.8 mm of rain, but this year the figure has already reached 431.2 mm....
