health camp held at home of 'Pink elephant'
Jaipur, April 12 -- The forest department on Saturday organised a two-day health camp at the home of the elephant Chanchal who died in February, almost a year after a Russian photographer painted him entirely in pink to conduct a photoshoot.
During the camp, the health of around 76 elephants in the village was examined.
Elephant Village Committee President Ballu Khan said such camps are held every six months for elephant check-ups. Samples are collected, and medicines are distributed during these camps.
All 76 elephants of the Elephant Village have been examined.
Deputy director of Nahargarh biological park Dr Arvind Mathur said, "Blood samples and swab samples were taken from the elephants. All elephants are being dewormed to prevent any bacterial growth."
Multivitamins and minerals were administered to all elephants, and their feet were checked. All samples will be sent for further testing. "Through this camp, mahouts are being trained on how to care for elephants, with special emphasis on summer care tips", he said.
