hc Seeks Update on Vacancies in Child Rights Bodies by May 22
Jodhpur, May 20 -- The Rajasthan high court on Monday directed the additional advocate general to apprise it by May 22 regarding the steps taken to fill the widespread vacancies in key institutions meant to protect the rights of children under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
The court took suo motu cognisance on May 13, citing a grim situation across the state's Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs), Child Welfare Committees (CWCs), and Child Care Institutions, to ensure effective implementation of the law. "On the request of the Additional Advocate Generals, who are seeking adjournment for verifying the status of the steps, if any, taken for filling up the unfilled vacancies, post this matter on May 22 2025," the bench said on Monday.
The court had initiated a PIL after examining a report submitted by the deputy secretary of the Rajasthan State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (RSCPCR). The report highlighted critical vacancies, including the post of full-time chairperson of the RSCPCR, as well as vacant member secretary and deputy superintendent of police positions, many of which are being managed through additional charge arrangements.
