HC seeks affidavits on Haldighati, Rakht Talai
JODHPUR, Feb. 18 -- The Rajasthan high court has directed the Union and state governments, and the concerned departments to file detailed affidavits on the condition of the historic sites of Haldighati Pass and Rakht Talai.
While hearing a suo motu PIL on Monday, a division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma and justice Nupur Bhati said the departments must place on record their respective stands and a comprehensive account of the steps taken so far on the issues flagged in the court's earlier order. During the hearing, additional solicitor general Bharat Vyas, appearing for the ministry of culture, the ministry of environment and the archaeological survey of India (ASI), sought time to submit a response.
The court clarified that both the central and state governments must file detailed affidavits addressing the serious concerns identified in its December 16, 2025 order. In that order, the court had observed that Haldighati Pass and Rakht Talai, sites associated with the valour of Maharana Pratap and the Battle of Haldighati, were being damaged due to encroachments, filth, plastic waste, open drains, sewage overflow, unregulated traffic, noise and pollution.
