HC grants final extension for lake surveys
JODHPUR, June 2 -- The Rajasthan High Court on Friday granted a final four-month extension to the state government to complete the long-pending district-wise survey and identification of lakes under the Rajasthan Lakes (Protection and Development) Authority Act, 2015. The extension was granted after the State filed an application expressing unconditional apology for the delay and submitting proof of payment of the Rs.50,000 penalty each imposed earlier on two top officials.
Hearing the suo motu PIL registered in 2016, a division bench of justices Shree Chandrashekhar and Sandeep Shah accepted the request, recording that an undertaking had been submitted on behalf of the Additional Chief Secretary-cum-Finance Secretary, assuring that the Finance Department would release funds as required for completing the task. The latest order records that the respondents have deposited the fine via demand drafts and tendered an unconditional apology....
