Jaipur, May 16 -- Rajasthan high court on Thursday told the state government to take a decision on the cancellation of the Sub-Inspector 2021 examination by May 26 or else the court will pronounce a verdict. A single-bench of the court presided over by justice Sameer Jain, said: "The government has given enough time. The decision was supposed to be taken two months ago. Yet, the court has granted several extensions as the government said that they need to review multiple aspects. However, court is now giving a last chance to the government." "The ministerial sub-committee is hereby directed to take a decision on this matter in their next meeting on May 21 after which the court will hear the matter on May 26. If the government fails to take a decision by the next hearing date, the court will pronounce a verdict on this matter. The court will also see if any financial cost could be imposed on the members of the committee for this failure," he added. Jain was hearing a bunch of petitions seeking to cancel the Sub-Inspector 2021 recruitment exam after the Special Operation Group (SOG) arrested 103 people including 55 trainee SIs and two ex-RPSC (Rajasthan Public Service Commission) members Babulal Katara and Ramu Ram Raika in the case since March 2024. The exam was conducted in 2021 to fill up about 859 posts. However, the SOG investigation found a massive fraud that took place from the written test to the interview of the exam. Following the development, the SOG filed an FIR in March 2024 and initiated a probe into the case. The SOG had also suggested in their report that the SI-2021 exam should be cancelled and the candidates should make appearing for it once more. On February 20 this year, the same court granted a three month of period to the government to take the decision. On May 5, the court against extended the period on the government's request. On Thursday, the government again sought a four-week period from the court for the matter. "Due to the recent turmoil between two nations at the border area, the committee (headed by law minister Jogaram Patel) could not sit for this matter. Any decision is also required to be approved by the CM which was also not possible in the last few days. The next meeting is scheduled on May 21. The government is serious about this matter and is reviewing all the aspects. If the court pressurises the government with this financial penalty, it would be difficult for the government," additional advocate general Vigyan Shah argued during the hearing on Thursday. Objecting the government's extension application, the counsel of the petitioner, Om Prakash Solanki, said: "Despite granting a three month of period, the government could not take any decision. Meanwhile, the probationer period of the trainee SIs is going to be over in July. The government's approach is illusionary. The court should not grant them any further time." Hearing both the government and the petitioner, justice Jain passed an order saying that "the court is considering the non-sitting of the committee in view of the national turmoil in the last few weeks. We are not putting any pressure. But the government has to take any decision by the next hearing date on May 26." Meanwhile, a group of trainee SIs along with the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) chief Hanuman Beniwal sat for an indefinite dharna at Jaipur's Shahid Smarak since April 24 demanding cancellation of the examination....
