HC asks Central board to clarify if cow shelters create pollution
JODHPUR, Dec. 6 -- The Rajasthan high court asked the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to explain the status relating to the Gaushalas (cow shelters) and the nature of pollution that the Gaushalas are creating.
Advocate Moti Singh Rajpurohit, representing the Rajasthan Go-Gram Sewa Sangh, argued before a division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma and justice Baljinder Singh Sandhu on Wednesday that the guidelines formulated by the Central Board and the public notice issued by the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board mandate that all cow shelters obtain consent for establishment and operation under the Air and Water Acts.
He argued that these conditions are causing serious difficulties for thousands of cow shelters in the state. The Central Board had prepared guidelines for environmental management of dairy farms and cow shelters on instructions of the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
"Counsel for the respondent Central Pollution Control Board shall place before us the status relating to the Gaushalas and the nature of pollution that the Gaushalas are creating. A responsible officer of the CPCB shall remain present on the next date of hearing on December 10," the bench ordered. htc...
