JODHPUR, Nov. 20 -- The Rajasthan high court expressed deep concern over the acute shortage of shelter homes for women and girls across the state and said the government should take steps to establish Nari Niketans, Balika Grahs as well as Foster Homes in various districts. The division bench of acting chief justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma and justice Manoj Kumar Garg, while hearing a suo motu PIL on Tuesday, said: "We are extremely pained to notice that in the State of Rajasthan, which has 44 districts as of today, the counsel appearing for the State admits that there are only seven Nari Niketans... The State must recognize these aspects and take steps to establish Nari Niketans, Balika Grahs as well as Foster Homes in various districts." Counsel appearing for State shall file an affidavit as to the steps which are being taken for the said purpose, the bench said. The next hearing in the case will be held on December 8....
