GUJ PLANE CRASH: RAJ STUDENT'S NARROW ESCAPE
Kota, June 14 -- A 26-year-old third-year student from Kota at the BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad narrowly avoided the catastrophic Air India plane crash that killed 241 people in Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon.
Mayank Sen, a third-year student at the college, finished his meal in the hostel mess and left the premises at around 1pm. Shortly afterwards, the plane's tail fell directly on the mess building, triggering a massive blast and subsequent fire.
Reliving the moment, Sen said, "If I had stayed just a little longer, I might not be alive today."
He explained that doctors typically gathered to have lunch on the ground and first floors of the mess during that time, which made the incident all the more catastrophic.
Many of Sen's fellow students were injured in the accident, he said.
The All Rajasthan Serving Doctors' Association and doctors and staff at the Health Department building held a two-minute silence to pay tribute to the victims of the crash.
Chief medical and health officer (CMHO) Dr Narendra Nagar said that the plane tragically fell onto the medical college hostel, causing the untimely deaths of 4 student doctors who were interning there....
