Jaipur, July 4 -- The Rajasthan government has decided to establish the Rajasthan Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), modelled after the AIIMS Delhi, according to officials familiar with the matter. "RIMS in Rajasthan will be established as an independent institute on the lines of AIIMS. For this, a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) with AIIMS Delhi has been prepared. The government has essentially replicated the AIIMS Act for this purpose. The bill is currently with the law department for vetting and will soon be passed by the state government," one of the officials said. He said that experts from AIIMS Delhi will assist in planning infrastructure, specialisations and faculty recruitment to ensure RIMS matches national standards. "Currently, all other medical colleges in Rajasthan are affiliated with the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS), and their degrees are awarded by RUHS. In contrast, RIMS will grant its own degrees. It will conduct its own courses, set its own syllabus, and operate independently. It will be the first institute in the state to follow the AIIMS and IIT model," he said. "Dr Virendra Paul, director of the School of Planning and Architecture, has already visited Jaipur for this initiative. He will prepare and submit an action plan within a week on how to develop the hospital," he added....
