Jodhpur, May 2 -- The Rajasthan high court on Thursday ruled that the government orders issued on holidays cannot be deemed invalid merely because of the date, stating that public officials are not barred from performing their official duties round the clock, including on holidays. Dismissing the plea challenging a suspension order passed on Dussehra, the court observed, "There is no force in the argument of the petitioner that the impugned charge sheet and suspension order was passed on holiday. This cannot be treated as an illegality on the part of the Government." The order came in response to a writ petition filed by Indra Dudi, elected pradhan of Panchayat Samiti, Chirawa (Jhunjhunu), who was suspended following allegations of corruption and financial irregularities. Dudi challenged her suspension and the charge sheet issued to her on the grounds that it was a retaliatory move passed hurriedly on a public holiday, just before the announcement of the model code of conduct for state elections....
