				Jaipur, Nov. 4 -- Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday urged the state government to constitute a special investigation team (SIT) to work towards improving road safety and ensure administrative accountability across departments, in the wake of the recent spate of serious accidents in the state.
"On average, more than 150,000 lives are lost in road accidents each year, with Rajasthan accounting for over 10,000," wrote Gehlot in a social media post.
He referred to two recent accidents in Phalodi, saying, "Hours after 15 people died in a road accident in Phalodi, 4 others lost their lives in a separate accident."
Gehlot emphasised that road safety was a multi-departmental issue, and as such, urged the government to form an SIT consisting of officials from the public works department (PWD), transport department, and the police.
He emphasised that a majority of victims in such accidents are innocent people who lose their lives due to others' negligence."The government should take strict action against officers and employees proven negligent, and run public awareness campaigns to reduce road accidents," added Gehlot....
