Barmer, May 7 -- The education department has launched AI-powered Oral Reading Fluency (ORF) programme on mobiles to help students in the state government schools read and speak Hindi with greater clarity and confidence, an official said. "Aimed at Classes 3 to 8, the initiative uses artificial intelligence to assess reading speed, fluency, and accuracy in real time. The goal is to strengthen core language skills in schools where traditional resources are often stretched thin," the official said. Under the initiative, students will be given engaging reading material via an AI-based application, which will assess their reading proficiency in real-time. The official said that the first phase of the programme will continue till May 9. "During the first phase, each student will be evaluated individually, with a focus on reading complex passages first, followed by simpler ones. If a student faces difficulty, they will be given a second chance. Teachers are instructed not to assist students during the reading assessment."
