Govt bans use of foreign goods in education dept
Jaipur, Aug. 7 -- Rajasthan government on Wednesday banned the use of foreign goods in three departments including in education department, sanskrit education department, and panchayati raj department.
Issuing the direction, Madan Dilawar, the minister of all these three departments, said, "The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, conceptualised the Make in India policy to boost the domestic manufacturing sector and economic development of the country. To comply of this vision, only the domestic goods manufactured in India should be used in all the offices of the Education, Sanskrit Education and Panchayati Raj departments, as per my direction."
"A special approval must be taken from the government to purchase or use any foreign goods if the domestic alternatives are not available in any circumstances," he further added.
The minister also said that a fine will be charged from the officials and other employees if they are found using any foreign goods in any of these three departments without permission.
"This is a necessary move to make our country economically stronger. We should prioritise our country and its domestic products in any situation. We should ensure that domestic products are only used even in our daily life. We must boycott the products which are not manufactured in our country," said Dilawar.
The minister also appealed to the women of Rajasthan to gift only domestic products to their brothers in the upcoming Raksha Bandhan.
He said, "You must buy only indigenous Rakhis made by your Indian brothers and sisters. Boycott foreign-made Rakhis, especially those made in China. By buying swadeshi Rakhi, you will not only serve the country but will also help a lot in providing employment to your Indian brothers and sisters."
"Purchasing one such home-made indigenously manufactured Rakhi, you may help hundreds of people in the country who are associated with this industry to get employment. This will bring happiness to them on this holy festival. Adopt Swadeshi and make the country strong," he added.
Commenting on the matter, the Congress spokesperson Swarnim Chaturvedi said that the state government must clarify and categorise which products are considered to be "foreign goods".
"There are many products, particularly the electronic ones, which are foreign manufactured or assembled, and being used over the years. It is important to categorise which are foreign goods and should be banned and also which should be identified as indigenous ones. Otherwise, the project will go in vain and the employees will be harassed unnecessarily," he said.
"The minister should also prioritise the smooth operation of his departments before these strange policies," he further added.
The president of the All Rajasthan School Teachers' Association, Ramkrishna Agrawal, called the decision a "bizarre one".
"Which universe does our minister belong to? Most of the products in the schools, colleges, and offices these days are foreign goods or assembled ones. They had recently installed smart TV in the schools to promote smart classrooms. The students were also given tablets. Our mobile phones are also foreign goods. How could he replace them?" Agrawal asked.
He further added: "It is easy to pass a bizarre direction but what would be the plan of action? Does he have any proper plan to implement this policy? It is nothing but only a move to harass the employees."
Meanwhile, the education department on Wednesday also issued a show cause notice to at least 194 teachers in schools across the state after their students performed poorly in the recent board exams....
