Govt approves relief package for farmers affected by rainfall
Jaipur, Nov. 18 -- The state government has approved a major disaster relief package after this year's uneven monsoon, with 4.34 million farmers now entitled to a cumulative amount of Rs.2600 crore to compensate for crop damage by unseasonal or excessive rainfall or floods, a senior minister announced on Monday.
Disaster relief minister Dr Kirori Lal Meena said that 30 districts across the state reported at least 33% damage, according to a review of crop losses. The official notification said that 14,687 villages across 24 districts were identified as affected, and the compensation would be disbursed as per SDRF norms.
The minister said that a sum of Rs.4 lakh would be disbursed to families who had lost a member to a weather-related incident, amounting to a total of Rs.4.48 crore. A Rs.11.54 crore compensation for loss of property would also be disbursed to those eligible, he said.
According to Meena, the government has also allocated a cumulative sum of Rs.1,012.61 crore for over 50,000 repair and restoration projects of public infrastructure damaged by uneven rainfall.
The notification showed that the approval includes an allocation of Rs.293.13 crore to the public works department for 14,212 road repair projects and Rs.7.20 crore for 1,161 culvert repair projects.
The water resources, medical, panchayati raj and public health engineering department were also allocated sums of Rs.18.67 crore, Rs.13.18 crore, Rs.19.39 crore and Rs.22.69 lakh for repair and restoration work in their respective umbrellas, said the minister....
