Jaipur, Nov. 25 -- The Rajasthan government on Sunday announced the creation of 85 new panchayat samitis across 33 of the state's 41 districts, according to an official notification. According to the notification, all districts with the exception of Jhalawar underwent reorganisation of panchayat samiti boundaries. The total number of panchayat samitis in the state now stands at 450. Villages have been added, removed or reassigned, resulting in changes in jurisdiction across 40 districts, says the notification, adding that most committees will now oversee fewer villages, reducing the scale of administrative jurisdication and responsibility. No new samitis were constituted in eight districts , while one committee each in Deeg and Alwar were abolished, says the notification. Interestingly, the notification shows that no new panchayat samiti was constituted in the home districts of the chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, the former chief minister Vasundhara Raje or the BJP state president Madan Rathore. Bharatpur, Jhalawar, Dholpur, Pali, Deeg, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand and Pratapgarh are among the districts left unchanged. Jhalrapatan in Jhalawar is the constituency held by Raje, Dholpur is her home district, Bharatpur is Sharma's home district of , and Pali is home to state BJP chief Madan Rathore. According to the notification, Jodhpur has witnessed the highest number of additions, gaining seven new panchayat samitis. Barmer follows with six, and Churu ranks third with five. Nagaur and Udaipur now have four new committees each, reflecting significant administrative expansion. In Deeg district, the Nagar Panchayat Samiti has been renamed Braj Nagar, while the Seekri Panchayat Samiti has been dissolved, says the notification. In Alwar, the Bhanokhar Panchayat Samiti has been abolished as part of the restructuring exercise, it says, adding that Jaisalmer has also seen a change with the Sam Panchayat Samiti renamed Khuhadi, although its jurisdiction remains unchanged.
