Jaipur, June 9 -- Congress's lack of foresight when it was in power in Rajasthan has caused a severe power shortage in the state, power minister Hiralal Nagar said on Sunday, hours after former chief minister Ashok Gehlot targetted the BJP government over power cuts, alleging that the power distribution system has collapsed. Addressing a press conference, Nagar said, "Congress's lack of foresight is responsible for a severe power shortage in Rajasthan. Due to such a lack of vision, we had to purchase almost 1000 MW energy daily last year. We could not manage the demand during the summer last year. But the situation was absolutely stable this year." Earlier, in a post on X, Gehlot said, "The weather of the villages is rosy only in your files, but the figures are false and the claim is bookish." The senior Congress leader said that on the completion of one year of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, it was publicised that Rajasthan has now become a "surplus state" in terms of power generation. However, as soon as the mercury soared, power cuts were being reported from everywhere, including villages and cities, he said. "Power cuts in a 'surplus state' simply mean mismanagement by the government. The power distribution system in Rajasthan has collapsed due to which the common man is troubled," Gehlot said. Reacting to Gehlot, Nagar said, "The Congress has no issue to raise and therefore they are now raising some matters only to mislead the people." "Last year, we might have struggled to provide people with a smooth power supply. But this is the second summer in our tenure. Power supply was not interrupted anywhere during this summer," he said....
