Jaipur, Oct. 13 -- Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot on Sunday warned party cadre against influencing the ongoing selection process for district presidents through unfair means. The process is part of the party's larger organisational revival, and has been marred by reports of heated invective and factionalism from various district meetings aimed at consultation prior to appointments. Under the "Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan", the All-India Congress Committee has deputed observers to oversee the consultation process and field local views before finalising the president, which has subsequently sparked reports of bitterness and factionalism in districts like Ajmer, Kota and Jhunjhunu. Responding to the reports, Gehlot said, "The very purpose of this campaign is to ensure that observers consult everyone before finalising the district president, guaranteeing that all workers participate." He also championed the party initiative as a "unique experiment" initiated by national president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. He issued a word of caution to party cadre and senior leaders to use their influence to misdirect the process. Earlier, on October 4, Gehlot emphasized impartiality in the process to ensure broad support for the appointed leaders and strengthening of the party. Observers had already begun visiting districts across Rajasthan, and all Congress workers are urged to help make the initiative successful, he had said. "The more impartial these observers are, the better the outcome of this program will be. This will help Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi accomplish their mission of rebuilding the party organization," he said....
